Hidden in a small casing is a fully professional processor charger with a three-stage charging process TC/CC/CV. Xtar SP1 charges standard Li-ion cells 3.6 / 3.7V and Li-ion with a higher voltage of 3.8V as well as lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. The mentioned types support batteries of any capacity in sizes 14500, 14650, 16340, 17500, 17670, 18350, 18500, 18650, 18700, 22650, 25500, 26650. The type of cell is selected using a switch located on the side, and the charging current is set with a button on the top of the casing.
What is the TC/CC/CV charging method? It is a three-stage charging process for Li-ion cells that ensures the cell is kept in good condition by charging with the appropriate current at each stage and ending the charging process at the right moment.
The individual stages of the TC/CC/CV process are:
•TC Phase: cells discharged below 2.9V are 'woken up' with a lower current.
•CC Phase: after reaching 2.9V, the cell is charged with a constant current and voltage value selected by the user.
•CV Phase: when the cell is almost fully charged, the charger switches to charging with a decreasing current until the appropriate voltage on the cell is reached. Once this is achieved, the charging process is complete - the battery is fully charged.
Charged batteries left in the charger will undergo a natural self-discharge process. Charging will resume when the voltage on the battery drops below 3.9V for Li-ion and 3.3V for LiFePO4.
The Xtar SP1 charger has a reactivation function for deeply discharged cells and cells with a voltage of 0V. Many chargers on the market are unable to charge such batteries. Here, the Xtar SP1 charger comes to the rescue, which in many cases allows for the 'rescue' of such cells. Simply insert the deeply discharged battery into the SP1 charger, just like with normal charging - the charger will detect the discharged cell and attempt to reactivate it. Note! Cells discharged below a certain level may suffer irreversible damage, and their reactivation may be impossible. Avoid excessively deep discharging of Li-ion batteries - this can lead to a significant reduction in their lifespan and capacity or render them completely inoperative.
Chargers from other manufacturers can significantly raise the temperature of the charged cells during charging. Excessive heating of the cells can cause them to wear out faster. In designing the SP1 charger, Xtar has gone a step further than the competition by solving this problem simply: external power supply was used. As a result, the temperature of the battery being charged in the SP1 will rise by no more than 15 degrees.
The Xtar SP1 has an additional power bank function with a 5V 1A USB output. Any Li-ion or LiFePO4 battery with a minimum capacity of 2200mAh can be used as a power source. To use the power bank function, disconnect the charger from the mains or car power supply, place the battery in the charger, and hold the charging current selection button for 1.5 seconds. The discharge status of the battery is indicated by a diode on the charger casing.
Included with the Xtar SP1 charger is a mains power supply with an EU plug and a 12V car cigarette lighter cable.
