Another test of suspiciously cheap Eneloops bought on a well-known shopping platform

Just like last year, we decided to test suspicious rechargeable batteries described as Eneloop Pro, offered through the largest shopping platform in Poland. The price – really "bargain" – over 30% lower compared to the current prices from the official distribution – what could have gone wrong ;) ?

Unfortunately, this time either, we were not positively surprised and apart from a different production date (10-2021), the newly purchased rechargeable batteries are no different from last year's fakes, and are even worse.

The main irregularities are marked in red:
- the batteries are randomly placed on the blister, not always turned forward with the logo,
- for R03/AAA cells, the declared minimum capacity is 950 mAh,
- for R03/AAA cells, the indicated battery size is HRO3, BK-4HCCA series,
- poorly reproduced, pale graphic elements - e.g. visible moiré on the symbol of the Earth, on the front of the blister,
- no visible production date on the back,
- language errors and typos - no Polish "tails".
In addition, we would like to draw your attention to two more differences not mentioned before:
- A different look for the eneloop logo – a different letter "e"
- A graphical error in the hammer icon on the reverse.
On counterfeit packaging, the Eneloop logo is spelled incorrectly – note the small "e" in the logo – it has a completely different finish.

Tests of new fakes.
In order to check the actual capacity, we performed 5 full charge and discharge cycles. The capacity tests showed even worse results than a year ago.
AA size batteries do not have the declared 2450 mAh, and only about 1900 mAh maximum. Similarly, rechargeable batteries described as 950 mAh actually offer "only" about 650 mAh.
The results obtained in comparison with the original batteries are shown in the charts below.

Much lower capacities are not the biggest problem of these batteries – by using these fakes we lose the biggest advantage of Eneloop batteries – low self-discharge at high (for Ni-MH batteries) voltage. As our previous test showed after 13 months of storage, counterfeits are characterized by very high spreads, low operating voltage and a relatively high self-discharge effect.
Unfortunately, despite numerous interventions with the administrators of the shopping platform, after a year of time it is still easy to buy counterfeits – in addition, there is no shortage of people willing to buy them – as the screenshot below shows.

Kupiłem ostatnio u Państwa Eneloop AA i z 8 szt. tylko jeden trzyma minimalną pojemność deklarowaną przez producenta 1900 mAh. 4 szt. nie dobijają nawet do 1800 mAh. Tak, mówię o rozładowaniu prądem 200 mA. Te podejrzanie tanie nie były, a może komuś się do mojej przesyłki outlet wrzucił.

Nawet Eneloop z 2016 r. z 16 szt. 9 trzyma powyżej 1900 mAh, 1 powyżej 1800, 5 powyżej 1700, jeden padł.-
Eneloopy nawet kilkuletnie, jeżeli nie były wcześniej używane nie powinny mieć żadnych problemów z osiągnięciem minimalnych pojemności.
Proszę o podanie informacji ile cykli ładowania i rozładowania było wykonane przed pomiarem oraz co ważniejsze w jakiej dokładnie ładowarce i jakim prądem ładowania były naładowane przed pomiarem pojemności.
W wielu dostępnych na rynku ładowarkach, w konkretnych scenariuszach, Eneloopy potrafią być regularnie niedoładowywane.
