What is CRI? 

The color rendering index (CRI) is a measure of the ability of light to reveal the true colors of an object, and what the user will see when using a natural light source. In other words, the color rendering index is a measure of the quality of the output, where the higher the number, the more accurate the colors are. a high CRI flashlight is one that produces more natural light at the output. 

CRI is not the same as the color temperature of light.  

It is important to note that the CRI level is not the same as the color temperature of the light. The color temperature measured in Kelvin (K) represents the discoloration of the light beam. A lower temperature rating represents a warmer, yellowish tint, while a higher Kelvin rating is equal to a cooler, bluish tint. 

Why do you need a high CRI light?  

Often, the light at the output of the flashlight makes objects appear more whitened or with a bluish tint. Industrial and medical workers require the ability to perceive natural or "real" colors in order to perform their tasks correctly. Field paramedics must be able to correctly diagnose the patient with external signs such as blood tint or coloration of the patient's face. Engineers and/or electricians must be able to distinguish wires and cables of different colors so that they can safely and successfully set up or repair the connection. Refinishers or detailers must use lighting with a high CRI to see defects on the surface of the car body, as some types of scratches/defects may not be visible in ordinary LED light. Finally, proper color identification is useful when navigating a trail or forest at night.
